Martello Expert Services was founded in 2019 by James Garvey and Richard Moore. Both James and Richard enjoyed successful careers in banking for more than thirty years.
During their careers, they were very aware of the legal challenges that banks faced and their own experience of dealing with expert witnesses had been poor - "The experts could at best be described as journeymen generalists as opposed to subject matter experts and the quality of the expert reports reflected this.”
Banking is a complex idiosyncratic industry with a multitude of highly specialised niche areas and products. It is impossible for people even within the industry to be an expert in every product set. This complexity has increased in recent years with added layers of regulation and new - and even more sophisticated products.
Martello was thus created to provide access to high quality independent expert witnesses across the full range of financial services and commodities. It ensures the quality of the expert's report, even if they have no prior experience of expert report writing and court testimony.

James and Richard founded the firm in 2019 as part of Blackrock Expert Services (now Kroll). In 2020, they led a management buy-out to ensure the company remained independent.
