Expertise in Investment Advice

15 October 2023

Martello were instructed on behalf of a wealth management company to provide an expert witness report relating to investment advice in a dispute regarding the non-payment of wealth management fees by a high net worth individual (HNWI).

The expert work involved assessing investment decisions that were recommended by the wealth management agent as to their suitability for the client. This consisted of determining relevant factors that should be considered when providing investment advice for a generic client, as well as applying it to the specific client in question. The expert was also asked to pass comment on various sections of an opposing expert’s report.

The Martello analysis involved extracting relevant investment portfolio and performance data and summarising this in a digestible format, allowing conclusions to be reached and communicated clearly by the expert. This particular case incorporated the use of a ‘valuation expert’ who assisted in the valuation of a portfolio of investments in order to strengthen the credibility of the expert report. This case team was led by Rachel Henderson.
