Martello Financial Services year in review

30 June 2020

June marked the one-year anniversary of Martello Financial Services and we wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on our first 12 months and to look to the future.

We joined colleagues from Haberman Ilett and Blackrock Expert Services at The Adelphi building, London, in time to celebrate Blackrock Expert Services’ 10-year anniversary. Joining a reputable business, with established processes in place, allowed us to hit the ground running, and operating as part of such a group, along with IT Group in Preston, has already facilitated some collaboration on services we provide.

Our roster of experts now numbers over 100 individuals, and we are currently supporting 11 financial services disputes. It has been encouraging to see how our unique service offering, providing a diverse pool of high-quality expert witnesses, has worked for our clients, with a partner at a City law firm commenting that our team at Martello were “responsive, diligent and adept at handling the complex issues they have been instructed on.”

Over 10% of our highly specialised experts are currently engaged in writing reports and we have several ongoing discussions with clients on prospective projects. Clients recognise our experts’ experience and appreciate Martello’s commitment to ensuring that our experts’ skills and knowledge is appropriate to each case:

“The expert chosen considered a large volume of papers in a short time and was able to explain his views on the matter before him very clearly. It was clear to us that he had a great deal of experience in the area we were looking at and was able to apply this expertise to the matter under consideration.” Director, Regional Litigation Law Firm

“we have found [Martello’s] responsiveness and willingness to put in the extra effort very commendable. James Garvey was very prompt in assisting me with potential Experts, even over a long Bank holiday weekend.” DK Singh, Managing Partner, KBH Kaanuun, Dubai

As well as assisting with matching the right expert to the right case, our two senior executives and financial services expert witnesses, James Garvey and Richard Moore, have been recognised for their own expert appointments. Philip Young, Partner at Cooke, Young and Keidan, commented that James Garveyprovided specialist input on a case involving issues around a debt refinancing. He greatly impressed both our Counsel team and our own team in the efficient, comprehensive and authoritative way that he addressed the issues“ and a partner at another City law firm commented that Richard Mooreprovided clear and thoughtful analysis and has managed the overall process very efficiently.”

In November 2019 we were delighted to host our first official expert reception, where we welcomed a special guest speaker to discuss the role and importance of expert evidence. We look forward to organising and participating in many more thought-provoking discussions and debates over the coming 12 months, and beyond.

We are pleased to report that we have been fully operational throughout this challenging time. The way in which our core team was set up means that we have been able to adapt quickly to working in separate locations and we are able to progress new business as usual. Business has been brisk recently and we would like to thank all the law firms and their clients who have selected our experts for their cases. Despite the lockdown, May was our busiest month since we opened our doors. We look forward to another year of providing our clients with the high-quality of service that we have been proud to deliver to date.
